Change
Of Address Announcements
In today's busy day and age, one detail that is often neglected during
a move is sending out change of address announcements. I for one, have
been most guilty in this regard. In my whole life I have moved 15
times. And not once have I had the where with all to get my act
together and send out change of address announcements. I always mean to
get around to it. I always admire those who are so organized,
thoughtful and together to send out these notices. It's such a
thoughtful gesture and really, is in one's own best interests, since
having your mail redirected is the only sure way to avoid needless
interruptions in your mail service, and to make sure that you receive
any important information, gifts and cards that might be coming your
way.
Perhaps the postal service should make this procedure much easier and
user-friendly. Perhaps if they sent out the paperwork necessary to
ensure that all information is gathered on time, then people like me
would be more likely to fill out this change of address announcements.
Of course, there would have to be some way that the postal service
would find out that someone was moving. Couldn't the real estate agent
involved with the individual take it upon themselves to send a notice
to the post office? I don't know. But someone more together than the
likes of me would just have to be involved for this to take place.
Another idea is that this whole procedure could be handled online -
perhaps by means of a simple email to the post office. Yes! I believe
if that was all it took to ensure that change of address announcements
were sent out, just a click of a button or two, that I'd be sure to
take advantage and make this happen. (For all I know this already is in
the works - so, at least, a notification of this service would be
needed.)
In any case, for whatever reason, sending out change of address
announcements has never been a reality for me. And so, three months
.... six months .... even a year down the road I am receiving forwarded
mail from the new resident of my old address. I'm sure they just love
this added responsibility in their lives, I really do!
The funny thing is, no matter how neglectful I am about notifying the
post office of my change of address, the bills always have a way of
finding me. And if the bills can find, then I figure so should everyone
else be able to locate me. And perhaps that is why I typically leave it
at that!
